Galaxy of Authors
Chris Tullbane, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
As far as fiction is concerned, I received a multi-month severance package in 2013 when I was laid off from my software development job. After a few months of hiking and re-education, I got bored, so I decided to sit down and write something.
Holly Rae Garcia, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing? I wanted to see if I could write a book. I figured, what better way to learn how to write a book…than actually writing a book?
Galaxy of Authors: Keyla Damaer
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
I don’t have an answer to that. I’ve been writing since I could. Words can be magic if combined in the right way.
J I Rogers, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing? I can’t remember a time where I didn’t have concepts for stories; as an artist, it’s difficult not to create them while you’re working on a project.
F Stephan, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing? It had been a dream dormant for many years. The day my mother had a severe health problem, the time came to face this envy and begin writing.
C Rene Astle, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
I can’t say I actually decided to start writing. I’ve written for as long as I can remember.
M J Stoddard, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
I just love to create…I knew I wanted to be a full-time author, I knew I had a gift…I wanted to take my writing to the next level and create an original epic sci-fi/fantasy.
Jane Jago, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
There was no conscious decision. I have just always written. It’s as natural as breathing.
Mike van Horn, Galaxy of Authors
What is your favourite genre to write? I write science fiction—stories about Earth people traveling to the stars and interacting with aliens. Why? Because I want them to be true. I want to overcome the impossibilities, so I can go to those places myself.
Chris Morton, Galaxy of authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
Way back when… I don’t even remember. Art? Expression? Creation? Immortality? One day I woke up and I’d written ten books.
Tiffany Passmore, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing? I was a babysitter for younger relatives. They truly enjoyed when I would read to them before nap and bed time. People of color are rarely seen in the genre as more than the bad guys, or the comic relief etc. So, I began to tell them stories that were based on research into African mythology.
W H Mitchell, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing? I drew a lot as a kid, even making long picture stories with plots and different characters. Once I started writing, I began doing that a lot more than drawing, and things just grew from there.
Dan Melson, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
I couldn’t not write.
Margret Treiber, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
I don’t know. I just started as a kid and that was that. There was no decision one way or another. It just kind of happened.
Lawrence Oliver, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
I’ve always loved fiction, especially science fiction and my imagination runs wild often to the point of distraction. Writing had always been something I enjoyed as a young person and I had wanted to pursue it as an adult but never made the time.
Emanuel Andrei Cosutchi, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing? I started writing because I love the Sci-Fi and Fantasy genre and I wanted to share my stories with people.
Astrid Tuttle Winegar, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing? I had just finished my masters degree and was dreading trying to enter the teaching market. So, I basically wrote a book to avoid the entering the real world.
Jacqueline Church Simonds, Galaxy of Authors
Is there such a thing as a plotter/pantser? A Plonter? That would be me. Each book I’ve written to date has taken its own course. I guess I like to lightly outline, and then pants-it from there.
Lissa Dobbs, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing? I had to do a project in the fourth grade. We had to write the story, illustrate it, and make a book. I was hooked.
S E Sasaki, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning, tell me what made you decide to start writing. I was always writing from a small child. I always had a pad of paper and a pencil or pen and I was always writing stories. I lived in my head.
A M Rycroft, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing? I can’t say for sure what made me start my first story when I was very young, but I loved creating stories, even when I shouldn’t have been.
Steve Harrison, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing? I wish I knew. I was in my late twenties and working in a boring office job when an idea occurred to me for a science fiction story.
Robert Lee Beers, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing? I started in elementary school because it was fun and most of the things the teachers had me doing wasn’t.
Rick Partlow, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing? I’ve been writing since I was a kid, and it’s always been a desire to tell the stories I wanted to hear that no one else was telling.
Richard H Stephens, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
One sweltering afternoon, while my best friend and I were reading Hardy Boy books, we had an epiphany. We thought, “We could write one of these.” And so, I did.
Richard L Pastore, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
It’s difficult to say, since I never made a conscious decision to be a writer. I’m not even sure I have yet. I’ve always had a creative mind, but often lack the skills to realize those thoughts.
Raquel Byrnes, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing? I remember wanting to have adventures of my own and started making them up and eventually writing them in notebook after notebook while growing up.
Nik Krasno, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing? I think almost everyone wishes to write a book. Same thing with me. I thought I’d been witnessing incredible events unfolding that deserved a story.
Neven Carr, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
It was an innate desire to write… and I soon found it to be an avenue to express my feelings particularly during difficult times: i.e. adolescence.
Mathew McCall, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
From an early age my mother read to me at night, all the old children’s classics and so I had a love of the narrative and storytelling before I could ever put a pen to paper.
Jon Cronshaw, Galaxy of Authors
Indie, or traditionally published – and why?
I’m indie through and through. I’ve always had a DIY ethic and an entrepreneurial streak. Traditional publishing is still focused on selling things printed on pulped-up trees that were written two years ago.
John Thornton, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing? I have been imagining situations and stories for as long as I can remember. Back as a small child, like fifty years ago, we would play pretend. That was the start of my making up stories in my head.
J D Byrne, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
I write for a living as a lawyer. I had ideas that I thought would be neat for stories and realized nobody else was going to write them.
Greg Krojac, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
I had been going through a particularly bad time. What happened to me sounded like something that might happen in a book, so I started to write the book. It didn’t help, but I did discover that I enjoyed writing.
Gary Morgenstein, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
I remember, oh, maybe I was eight or nine, writing baseball stories about a shortstop named Davey who played for the New York Yankees. Gore Vidal said that writers are born with a stock company of characters; Shakespeare had like nearly 30, and then there are the rest of us mortals.
E A Copen, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
I don’t remember. I wrote my first book when I was 3 with crayons and printer paper. It’s just always been a part of who I am.
D C Ballard, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing? I come from a family of artists, my mother paints, my brother draws, and I have perfect color sense, but I cannot draw my way out of a wet paper bag. I have however been accused of painting with words.
Damien Lutz, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
In High School,I was given an English Assignment with one rule—it had to be 2000 words. Inspired by fantasy novels, I decided to type out a story. Although I could only type with two fingers, once I started I couldn’t stop.
Cris and Clare Meyers, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
‘In the beginning…’ That’s a loaded question. It just sort of happened. Cris remembers writing what he calls ‘bad Star Wars fanfiction’ when he was little, and Clare too had a few amateurish stories she wrote as a kid.
Claire Buss, Galaxy of Authors
What is your favourite genre to write, and why?
My favourite genre to read is fantasy and science-fiction so that tends to be the topics I’m drawn to when I sit down to write. I have tried to write real-life fiction but I’m never quite satisfied that it feels ‘real’ enough.
Cindy Tomamichel, Galaxy of Authors
What is your favourite genre to write, and why?
I most enjoy writing fantasy, as I can let my imagination run free and invent all sorts of craziness. I have dabbled in scifi, and been published in time travel romance, but most of my writing ends up with a fantasy element.
Chrys Cymri, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
I wrote my first short story when I was seven years old, and I really haven’t stopped since then. It wasn’t so much that I decided to write as that I had to write.
Christopher Keene, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
I started young when my imagination seemed more interesting than reality and I wanted to see if anyone agreed. Writing seemed the most thorough way of asking.
Christian Warren Freed, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
I began with goofy comic books and decided to tackle a horror novel in 10th grade. It won me the student of the month award but was a total crapfest. I try to burn it every time I go home but mom won’t let me.
Carol van Natta, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
In high school, I wrote fan fiction with my friends, primarily in the Star Trek universe. Mine was wretchedly bad, full of every angsty teenage trope you can think of, but it cemented my love of writing and storytelling.
C H Clepitt, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
I had a dream… I know, everyone says that, but it’s true. I woke up one morning vividly remembering a scene from a story.
Brhi Stokes, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
To be honest, writing is just something I’ve always done. I distinctly remember becoming old enough to read and swiftly transitioning to the one who read the children’s stories, rather than was read to.
Bill McCormick, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
I’ve always been fascinated by the art of storytelling. I started writing horseshit when I was a kid. By the time I was a teen I’d gotten good enough that my high school used one of my scripts as a play.
Andy Zach, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
I love telling stories and entertaining people with them. I began writing stories in 3rd grade with science fiction stories.
Andrew Weston, Galaxy of Authors
In the beginning…tell me what made you decide to start writing?
An accident at work. I served for thirty-four years in the military and then the police service. An injury on duty entailed a number of operations and a long convalescence, but gave me the time to start putting all the ideas I’d accrued over the years down in writing.
